Owen Stites Dunavan

Owen Stites Dunavan, age 88, Mound City, Kan., passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015. He was born on Sept. 20, 1926 at Mound City, Kan., the son of Wilbur and Zelda Stites Dunavan. He graduated from Mound City High School where he was involved in the livestock judging team. He married Julia, "Judy" Murray on Nov. 21, 1944. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 1993. He later married Charlotte New Brown on Feb. 5, 1994. Owen was a rancher, farmer, heavy equipment operator for Glen "Gunner" Burge, ran a saw mill and managed the Mound City Co-OP during his working career. But, his passion was flying planes and crop dusting. He was a member of the Wall Street Church and the American Legion Hewitt New Post 248 at Mound City. Also preceding him was a son, Monty Brown, a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Dunavan, a great grandson, Clancy, a brother, Russell, and two sisters, Thelma and Ida. Owen is survived by his wife, Charlotte, three daughters, Patricia "Patty" Stude, Deborah "Debi" Umphenour, and LeaAnn Brown Davenport, two sons, Rod Brown and Dan Brown; 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 at the Wall Street Church. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Wall Street Church.
