A tip of the cowboy hat to Hawk

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

Echoes of the Trails co-founders Johnny Kendrick, left, and Arnold Schofield, right, present Gary Hawk, center with a plaque Saturday during the cowboy poetry portion of the two-day event. The plaque was given in appreciation of Hawk's support throughout the 19 years the Echoes of the Trail Cowboy Gathering has been held. Hawk painted a watercolor scene of southeast Kansas and gave the organization the first 10 prints, with the first print bringing $1,000 during one of the early event auctions. Some of Hawk's prints were given to those who donated $500 to the event; one was given to Fort Scott Community College and the rest were auctioned. The Echoes of the Trail Cowboy Gathering was held Friday and Saturday at Bailey Hall on the Fort Scott Community College campus.
