Doris Louise Brown

Doris Louise Brown, age 90, a former resident of Fort Scott and Wichita and more recently of Mesa, Ariz., died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, in Mesa. She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Garland, Kan., the daughter of Joseph Overbeck and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Sullivan Overbeck. She graduated from Fort Scott High School. She married Walter Earl Brown. Following World War II, the couple moved to Wichita, Kan., where Doris was employed by Cudahy Packing Company and later for Ritchie Brothers. She was a member of the Wichita Bible Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1988 and she later moved to Mesa, Ariz.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Brown and his wife, Jane, and two granddaughters, Cara Brown and Haley Brown all of Mesa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews including Sharon Endicott. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine, Irene and Ressie.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19 at the First Mennonite Brethren Church, 8000 W. 21st St., Wichita, Kan. A graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the U.S. National Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel on Wednesday prior to leaving for the cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
