JV girls win home meet

Fort Scott High School's junior varsity track team won 17 medals and the team title at its home meet at Frary Field Tuesday evening. The Tigers scored 119 points to finish 7 ahead of runner-up Chanute. Nevada was third with 73 points followed by Paola with 68.

Paola won the boys' team title with 107 points followed by LCHS with 73. The Tigers finished eighth with 41.

Fort Scott's girls won six events. Kelsey Carpenter won two of them, the 300-meter hurdles in 52.28 seconds and pole vault by clearing 7 feet, 6 inches.

Relays won two of the three events. The 4x100 team won in 57.57 seconds and the 4x800 team prevailed in 11:54.89. The 4x400 relay finished second to Paola in 4:50.90.

Mallory Westhoff won the 1,600 meters in 6:16.88. Asia Farrington took the 800 meters in 2:42.79. Farrington led a 1-2-3 Tiger finish in that event as Berkley Chavis was second in 2:51.10 and Kristal Castillo was third in 2:54.04.

In addition to Chavis and the 4x4 relay, three other individuals claimed second-place medals. Paxsten Eads turned in a time of 13:56.17 in the 3,200 meters. Makenna Berger was second in shot put with a mark of 28' 6". And Madi Larson cleared 28' 9 1/2" in triple jump.

Kharsyn Dwyer finished third in high jump, clearing 4' 6" and also had fifth-place finishes in the triple jump at 26' 10" and the 200 in 30.61.

Kaylee Coombs took fifth in the 400 meters in 1:12.36 and sixth in the long jump at 12' 9 1/2".

Tiger boys did not have any event winners. Seconds went to Gunnar Brown with a time of 56.66 in the 400 meters and the 4x100 relay in 48.67.

Pierce Mitchell picked up a pair of thirds. He clocked in at 11.93 in the 100 meters and cleared 5' 4" in high jump.

Austin Cook was fourth in shot put at 38' 3 1/2" and fifth in discus at 97' 7".

Antwaun Martinez finished fourth in triple jump at 35' 2". Garrett Tatro was fifth in the 1,600 in 5:53 and the 4x400 relay was sixth in 4:15.89.

This was the final scheduled event of the season for the JV track team. The varsity takes part in the Girard Optimist Club Meet today.
