Pittsburg sweeps Tiger baseball
PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg made it known that Fort Scott High's baseball team is not the only contender for the Southeast Kansas League title by sweeping a doubleheader from the Tigers at Jaycee Ball Park here Thursday.
The Purple Dragons, who now lead the SEK by a half game over Labette County at 3-0, 5-1 overall, took the first game 7-6 in eight innings and the nightcap 6-3.
The Tigers (0-2, 2-2) rallied from a 6-2 deficit after six innings to force extras.
In the bottom of the eighth, Sage Mahnken came up with runners on first and third with two out and hit a grounder through the left side of the infield to bring in Elijah Harris with the winning run.
The Dragons scored 6 in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game and were able to hold off the Tigers.
Fort Scott statistics were unavailable.
Fort Scott will host Parsons in a league doubleheader at Dave Regan Field Tuesday.
