Ira Melvin Seaver
Ira Melvin Seaver, age 88, resident of rural Fort Scott, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at his home. He was born on Sept. 16, 1926, the son of Charles Edwin and Mamie Pearl Klontz Seaver. He was born on the family farm which he still lived on and worked his entire life. He married Sharon June Dunbar on Sept. 29, 1946, in Fort Scott. Besides farming, they also ran a dairy. Melvin enjoyed restoring antique Farmall tractors when time would allow. He loved to tell a good joke as well as tease his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. He was a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of the home; three daughters, Cheryle Childers and husband Ron, Tallahassee, Fla., Janice Seaver, Fort Scott, and Susan Hildabrand and husband Rick, Fort Scott; four grandchildren, David and Daniel Smith, Brett Hildabrand, and Kristen Keenan; two great grandchildren, Samuel and Adam Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Asher, Leslie, and Raymond Seaver; and three sisters, Francis Vail, Hazel Thompson, and Wanita Noggle.
Rev. Phil Wilson will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at the First Church of God. Burial will follow in the Lath Branch Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to either Best Friends Animal Society or Samaritan's Purse and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
