Wanda J. Powell, 75, of Parsons, died at 5 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 04, 2015, at her daughter, Ginger's, home.

She was born Dec. 26, 1939 at Fort Scott, a daughter of Jesse and Mae Elizabeth (Parker) Rose. She was raised there and attended Fort Scott schools.

On July 25, 1959 she was united in marriage to Wayne E. Powell at Fort Scott. The couple continued living in Fort Scott then moved to Hiattville, Coffeyville and later Parsons in 1971. She was first employed at the Katy Hospital and later the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. More recently she worked part-time at the Westhoff Liquor. Mr. Powell preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2007.

She attended the Parsons Foursquare Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking and crocheting.

Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela Petersen, and her husband, Gary, of Cocoa, Fla.,

Linda Heady, and her husband, Leon, of Parsons, Kan., Ginger Powell, of Parsons, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Powell (who died as an infant) and Bradley Powell on Jan. 7, 2001; and one sister, Helen Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 7, 2015 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Schulze officiating. Burial is scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
