Middle school teams play Jayhawk, Nevada

Fort Scott Middle School boys' basketball started the week with games on consecutive days. The Tigers went to Jayhawk Junior High in Mound City on Monday and played at home against Nevada on Tuesday.

In Monday's games, which involved only each grade's "A" teams, the seventh grade won, 35-21, and the eighth grade won, 31-16.

Andrew Rhoades led the seventh-grade team with 10 points. Brody Bowles and Nick King each had 7 points.

The score was tied 6-6 after one period of play. Jayhawk led 14-10 at the half. The Tigers outscored JJH 25-7 in the second half.

Jarrett Shoemaker and Jordan Hall each scored 10 points in the eighth grade's win. The Tigers led 8-4 after one and 14-0 at the half.

The seventh-grade "A" team improved to 3-0 with a 43-35 win over Nevada on Tuesday. The Tigers led 7-2 after one quarter and 17-9 at the half. Nevada caught up a little bit in the third, getting within 26-24.

King and Cooper Bradbury each had 11 points for the Tiger A's.

Deandre Martinez scored 8 points for Fort Scott in the "B" team's 19-18 win over Nevada. The Tigers led 4-1 after one and 10-4 at the half. The "B" team is 2-0 on the season.

The eighth-grade "A" team fell to Nevada, 36-30. The game was tied 15-15 at the half. Nevada outscored Fort Scott 21-15 in the second half.

Hall led FSMS with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Shoemaker added 9 points.

The eighth-grade "B" team (0-2) dropped a 32-23 decision. Nick Lawrence led with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

The "A" teams will play today at a tournament in Independence. Both seventh-grade teams play in a tournament at Iola Jan. 24.
