'Hound men drop last two before break

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Fort Scott Community College's men will go into the holiday break on a five-game losing steak following road losses Thursday and Saturday.

The Greyhounds (6-9) lost to the Central Methodist junior varsity, 69-66, Thursday night. They lost at Wentworth Military, 70-48, Saturday afternoon. Fort Scott had beaten both teams in games played at Arnold Arena in November, the one versus Wentworth on Nov. 22 being the Greyhounds' last victory.

Xavier Hunter led Fort Scott with 19 points in the loss to Wentworth, making 11 of 14 free-throw attempts. Tyler Adams made 5 of 8 shots from the field in finishing with 15 and Will Harrington added 13.

The Greyhounds trailed 32-30 at the half. They made 43 percent of their shots from the field, going 18 of 42, and 25 of 33 free throws. They picked up 13 steals and dished 13 assists. But they were credited with just 19 rebounds and 25 turnovers.

Hunter handed out 6 of the assists and Adams had 5 steals.

Central Methodist stats were not available.

Saturday's game saw Fort Scott score its fewest points since a 69-43 loss to Division I Dodge City in the second game of the season. The 'Hounds did not fail to score 50 points all of last season.

Fort Scott shot only 33 percent from the field in this game, making 13 of 40 fielders. Wentworth connected on 43 percent of its shots, 26 of 61.

Hunter was the Greyhounds' only double-figure scorer with 13 points. Harrington led in rebounds with 9.

Gito St. Fort led Wentworth with 22 points, making 5 of 8 3-point attempts. LaShun Brower added 13 points and Donald Williams chipped in with 10.

After starting the season 5-3 --one of those wins coming over Division I Barton, which is one of only two games the Cougars have lost all season -- Fort Scott has lost six of its last seven. The 'Hounds are idle until January 10 when they play at Coffeyville in a division game.
