Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team has won a school-record 30 matches going into today's Region VI Division II District N Tournament at Kansas City Kansas Community College. But if the Greyhounds are going to make their first appearence in a national tournament, they're going to have to beat at least one team they did not beat during the regular season.

The eight post-season qualifiers in Region VI were split into two Districts and the winners of each one will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament November 20-22 at Phoenix College (Ariz.). Fort Scott (30-8) was the No. 3 seed and was placed into District N along with second-seeded Kansas City (27-9), sixth-seeded Hesston (20-7) and seventh-seeded Labette (11-17).

Of those three, Fort Scott has two wins over Labette. The 'Hounds beat the Cardinals in the Fort Scott Tournament on August 23 at Arnold Arena and again in the district-seeding match on September 24, also at Arnold Arena. Both matches finished in 3-0 sweeps.

The Greyhounds lost to Hesston on the road on October 1, a stunning three-set sweep by the Larks that broke a 15-match winning streak. A week later, Kansas City defeated Fort Scott, 3 sets to 1, in a match at Arnold Arena.

Kansas City, currently ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA Division II poll, will face Labette in today's first match at noon. Fort Scott, which has been ranked as high as No. 11 this season and currently appears on the "receiving votes" list will take on Labette at approximately 2 p.m. The winners of those matches will face off at about 4 p.m. with the victor advancing to the national tournament.

At Arkansas City, defending national champion Cowley (24-11) will host the District M Tournament. The Tigers, ranked No. 7, face Neosho County (15-20) at 1 p.m. Then No. 13 Johnson County (22-11) battles Coffeyville (25-11) in the other semifinal at 3 p.m. with the district title game to be played at 5 p.m.

Teams were seeded only on the basis on how they did in seeding matches against each other, not on overall record.
