Ronald "Ron" Dean Owens

Ronald "Ron" Dean Owens, age 68, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott. He was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Iola, Kan., the son of Clyde William and Martha Agusta Minnie Bulk Owens. He was raised in rural Humboldt, Kan., graduating in 1964. He then attended Southeast Kansas Vo-Tech School in Pittsburg, Kan., for auto body. Ron did body work for over 40 years. He married Delores "Dee" Ogle on Nov. 17, 1968, in Humboldt. Ron loved to fish, play guitar and possessed a wonderful singing voice.

Survivors include his wife Dee of the home; two daughters, Staci Owens, Miami, Okla., and Carisa Owens, Chanute, Kan.; a son, Jason Owens, Miami; two brothers, William Owens and wife Charlotte, Humboldt, and Melvin Owens and wife Frieda, Lee's Summit, Mo.; sister-in-law Pamela Sharp and husband Neal, Chanute; grandchildren Kelsey Gibson and husband Aaron, Seth Sykes, Jordan Owens, Kylie Owens, and Drew Owens-Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Wilson and his parents.

Pastor Steven Sweyko will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kan. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the church.
