Pittsburg meet postponed by rain

Friday, October 3, 2014

The afternoon thunderstorms with lightning weren't what cancelled the Pittsburg cross-country meet, in which Fort Scott High and Uniontown's teams were to participate Thursday. It was the morning heavy rain that turned the course into a partially-flooded mess which forced the issue.

If this meet is not rescheduled, then there are only two remaining for Fort Scott and Uniontown. The Tigers have a meet at Independence Thursday and the Southeast Kansas League Meet at Cherryvale's Big Hill Lake Oct. 16. Uniontown is scheduled to go to Pleasanton Thursday and the Three Rivers League meet in Burlington Oct. 16.

Class 4A Regional assignments were released. Fort Scott has been assigned to the Anderson County Regional at Garnett Country Club on Oct. 25. The girls' race begins at 2 p.m. with the boys to follow at 2:30. Fort Scott will be the only SEK League school at this Regional. The other Class 4A schools have been assigned to one at the Cessna Activities Center in Wichita. Pittsburg will be going to a meet at Mill Valley.

Uniontown has been assigned to a Class 2A Regional Oct. 25 at Sugar Valley Golf Course south of Mound City. Pleasanton is hosting Class 2A and 1A Regionals. Class 2A girls run at 3 p.m. followed by the boys at 3:30.
