Tiger athletes win four events at Chanute

CHANUTE -- Three Fort Scott High School athletes won first-place medals in four events at the Thad Clements Invitational here Friday.

Katren Rienbolt won the girls' 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for the Tigers. She finished with a time of 5 minutes, 15.83 seconds in the 1,600, almost 7 seconds ahead of teammate Cassidy Westhoff, who turned in a tome of 5:22.82. Rienbolt finished the 3,200 in 11:24.37 with Westhoff third in 11:40.50.

Jillian Lattimer won girls' javelin with a throw of 114 feet, 6 inches, just shy of 10 feet better than the runner-up. Lattimer was also sixth in shot put with a mark of 32' 3".

Garin Sinn won the boys' only gold medal on the day as he won shot put with a mark of 45' 6", 13 inches better than the runner-up.

Fort Scott's girls won a total of 11 medals as the Tigers finished fourth in team standings with 67 points. Pittsburg won the team title with 148 points.

Grace Willis was the runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.38. The 4x100-meter relay team was fourth in 53.92 and the 4x400 team was fourth in 4:30.42. Maddie Barbour was sixth in the 100 meters in 13.78 and Michaela Webb was sixth in the 400 in 1:06.81.

Fort Scott's boys finished in sixth place in the team standings with 35 points. Pittsburg also won the boys' team title with 151 points.

Three Tigers medaled in javelin with Chris Allen third at 166 feet even, Josh Hudiburg fourth at 165' 11" and Sinn sixth at 156' 11".

Devin Brooks took third place in the 3,200 in 11:08.23. Zach Wheeler was fourth in the 800 in 2:10.54. Vince Tome finished sixth in the 200 in 23.77. And the 4x100-meter relay team was sixth in 45.58.

Fort Scott will take part in the Southeast Kansas Relays at Pittsburg Friday.
