Helen G. Dumm, 101, of Girard, died at 4:35 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2014 in the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard.

She was born Jan. 13, 1913 in Cherokee, Kan., a daughter of Carl and Emma (Armstrong) Ausemus. She grew up in the Hiattville, Kan., area.

Helen married James Russell and he preceded her in death. She married Edward Brinkman on May 14, 1960 and he preceded her in death. Helen married Glenn W. Dumm on Feb. 7, 1974 in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1995.

Helen worked at the Girard Greenhouse for over 30 years before moving to Oswego, Kan., and Frontenac, Kan., before returning to Girard.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Girard and she enjoyed gardening, flower gardening, crocheting, and playing the guitar.

Survivors include her daughters, Joan DeGarmo of Girard and Wilma Trout of Liberal, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, 68 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Chester Ausemus of Hepler, Kan.; her sisters, Lucille McDaniel of Ohio and Jessie Neville of Fort Scott, Kan.; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Dumm of Altamont, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dumm, her daughters, Maxine Kichler, Pearl Steffens, and Viola Boggs; her brothers, James Ausemus, Earl Ausemus, Lee Roy Ausemus, and Kenneth Ausemus; her sisters, Bertha Spencer, Elsie Montee, and Lavon Fosberg; her grandsons, Timothy Steffens, Harold Kichler, and Steven Trout; her great-grandchildren, Phillip, Jody, Ashley, and Brad; her sons-in-law, Clarence DeGarmo, George Trout, Pete Kichler, and Melvin Boggs.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 1:30 p.m., Tuesday.
