Marin Vasilasi

Marin Vasilasi, age 75, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at the Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1939, in Bucharest, Romania, the son of Mihai Vasilasi and Constantina Olteanu Vasilasi. He married Constantina Bresler on Aug. 24, 1958, in Bucharest, Romania. In 1984, Mr. and Mrs. Vasilasi and their son immigrated to the United States. They settled in Kansas City where Marin worked in the foundry business. In 1990, the family moved to Fort Scott and later owned and operated M & L Foundry. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Overland Park. He had traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. He also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Constantina and son, Michael Vasilasi of Fort Scott; two brothers, John Vasilas and Constantin Vasilas, both of Chicago; two sisters, Maria Vasilas of Chicago and Lucretia Simion of Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brother and three sisters.

Father Timothy Sawchak will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Mercy Hospice and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel 201 S. Main, P.O.
