HIGHLAND -- Fort Scott Community College's men held off Highland in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division II play here Wednesday night by a score of 63-62.

The win gives the Greyhounds a sweep of the season series over Highland, which could prove valuable when post-season Region VI Division II Tournament seeding is determined.

Fort Scott's women lost for the seventh consecutive time as No. 2-ranked Highland took a 97-42 win in which the Scotties held Greyhound sophomore Malori Gales without a field goal.

Fort Scott's men (3-1 division, 3-3 region, 9-15 overall) are tied for first in the division with Johnson County but the Cavaliers (3-1, 4-2, 8-18) currently hold the tie-breaker because they beat the 'Hounds on February 1. The rematch is February 22 at Overland Park.

Fort Scott is fourth in region seeding ahead of Highland (2-2, 3-3, 13-13) thanks to the season sweep. Johnson County, Hesston and Brown Mackie are all tied for the top spot with 4-2 region records. Brown Mackie is currently the only team in the region with an overall winning record (15-11).

Fort Scott led 34-29 at the half and managed to hold off the Scotties. Prince Samuels made his first start in two months coming off an injury and led the 'Hounds with 27 points, going 10 of 13 from the field. Dalton Rose followed with 14 points off the bench. Mabor Gabriel had 13 rebounds.

Fort Scott's women (0-4, 0-6, 8-18) trailed 49-22 at the half. Gales was 0 for 8 from the field and finished with 3 points. Emily Feldman led the Greyhounds with 14 points. Ryann Bowser led Highland (4-0, 6-0, 25-1) with 23.

Highland's only loss came to Division I Cowley on January 11.
