Donald Adolph Drake passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2014, at his home, in Denver, Colo. He was born on March 28, 1936, in Mound City, Kan. He attended the public schools in Fort Scott, Kan., and graduated from Fort Scott High School. Coming from a family with a strong work ethic, he took a job at the Fort Scott Cement Company, but soon realized he was better suited for military service. Donald joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 24 years rising to the rank of Sergeant E6 at the time of his retirement. Donald loved to grill, and spend time with his family. For years he would travel from Denver to Fort Scott to spend time with his family on the Fourth of July.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, one sister, and two brothers. He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Jackie Dianna Garrett, of Fort Scott, Kan., five sisters, Deborah Nelson, Linda Vann, and Glenda Graham, all of Fort Scott, Kan., Hattie Wright Olathe, Kan., and Rotena Gray, Denver, Colo. Three brothers, Leon Harris, New Mexico, Eugene Harris, Los Angeles, Calif., Roger Harris, New York, N.Y., three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Rev. George Proctor will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the United Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery.
