UNIONTOWN -- The Uniontown Junior High seventh-grade girls' basketball team defeated Westphalia, 16-14, here Thursday night.

Down 11-6 at halftime, the Lady Eagles rallied in the second half to take a 12-11 lead. After falling behind 13-12, the Lady Eagles finished off Westphalia with a late 4-1 run.

Anna Jefferis had a big offensive night for Uniontown, scoring 10 points. Point guard Joy Page played excellent defense throughout the game and added 2 points. Aubry Ruggles and Harlee Tinsley also added 2 points apiece for the Eagles.

In other action, the UJH seventh-grade boys defeated the Westphalia, 43-34. The Uniontown boys eighth-grade team beat Westphalia, 46-25.

"I thought we played hard, and I thought on the defensive end we helped each other and moved our feet and then finished each possession with a rebound, so I thought we did a really good job tonight," Uniontown eight grade boys head basketball coach Chad Hays said. "This early in the season we have lots improve on. We've got free throw shooting, we still need to get better on the defensive end, take care of the ball better and those kinds of things. We play Jayhawk-Linn on Monday and they're good, so it will be a good test for us.
