CHANUTE -- Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team fell to No. 16-ranked Neosho County in three sets in Jayhawk conference-Eastern Division play Wednesday night. The match also counted toward Region VI Division II post-season tournament seeding and the loss puts the Greyhounds two matches out of the last playoff spot with two matches remaining.

Stephanie DeHoyos was credited with 17 kills while Jacy Ermel had 11. Kortney Blaufuss had 48 assists and 11 digs. Terina Harris came up with 30 digs to lead the 'Hounds while Shelbey Baker had 24, and Ermel and DeHoyos 18 each.

Neosho County improved to 6-2 in the East, 7-2 in district seeding and 26-6 overall. Fort Scott fell to 1-7 in the East, 2-7 for seeding purposes and 17-17 overall.

The Greyhounds' next two matches will be key if they want to make it to the playoffs. There are 12 teams in the district, eight of which advance. Fort Scott is currently tied for ninth in seeding with Labette (1-7, 1-8, 9-20), which they will face Monday night in Parsons.

Wednesday night, the 'Hounds will take on Coffeyville (3-5, 4-5, 21-22) Wednesday night in the final match of the regular season. The Red Ravens are tied with Highland (3-5, 4-5, 12-15) for the seventh seed but hold a tie-breaker.

The 'Hounds must win these next two matches, see Coffeyville also lose Monday night at No. 19 Kansas City Kansas and have Highland lose Monday night at home against Butler and Wednesday night at Independence -- which hasn't won either a district or a conference match this season -- and then hope a 3-way tie-breaker can work in their favor. All of these things must happen if Fort Scott is to have a chance of making the Region VI Division II tournament.
