UNIONTOWN -- The Uniontown Junior High football team cruised to an easy victory Thursday night, defeating the visiting Pleasanton Blu Jays, 42-32.

"I thought the boys played hard, we really got after it early, got up early, and I was glad everybody got in the game," Uniontown head coach Chad Hays said . "We just couldn't be more proud of our boys tonight."

The Eagles scored early in the first quarter on a Gavin Fry 20-yard touchdown-run, capping a five-play-65-yard drive. Fry also ran in the 2-point conversion putting Uniontown up 8-0.

Pleasanton fumbled the ensuing kickoff, turning the ball over deep in its own territory. On the very next play, Uniontown's Nick Ragan scored on a 13-yard run, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead with 6:27 to play in the first quarter. The extra- point failed.

Later in the first quarter, Fry scored again, this on a 15-yard run. Eagles' quarter back Hayden Miller was successful on the 2-point conversion on a run up the middle, extending the lead to 22-0.

On the first play of the second quarter, Fry ripped off a 41-yard run from scrimmage for his third rushing touchdown of the game. The 2-point conversion extended the lead to 30-0.

Shortly before halftime, Uniontown's Clay Robinson scored on a 14-yard run, making it 36-0. The 2-point conversion failed.

On the ensuing possession, Pleasanton moved the ball quickly downfield, with tailback Tayler George doing the bulk of the damage on the ground. Kaden McKee capped the drive with a 1-yard run for a score. McKee also ran in the 2-point conversion, making the score 36-8 at the half.

Early in the third quarter, Robinson intercepted McKee for a pick-six, staking the Eagles to a 42-8 lead after a failed two-point conversion.

"The interception return was nice,"said Hays. "Coming out of the half, that was a big play for us."

Late in the third quarter, George took a hand-off from McKee, dashing virtually untouched for a 52-yard touchdown for Pleasanton. McKee's conversion run cut the deficit to 42-16.

With 1:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, George waltzed in from 10 yards out for Pleasanton, adding to his touchdown total for the night. The 2-point conversion was successful, cutting the Eagles' lead to 42-24 with 1:51 remaining in the game.

George added another touchdown, with only 18 seconds remaining in the game -- this time from 7 yards out. Another successful 2-point conversion sliced Uniontown's lead to 42-32. The Blu-Jays' onside kick attempt failed, ending their comeback attempt.

"We were just glad that we got everybody in the game," Hays said."There towards the end, we had to put our first group back in to get a stop late. Everybody played well tonight."

Uniontown moves to 4-2 on the year. The Eagles will play their final game of the season next Thursday at Jayhawk-Linn.
