Elaine Burns Neil Evans

Elaine Burns Neil Evans, 90, of Iola, Kan., passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Guest Home Estates in Iola.

Elaine was born Oct. 7, 1922, at Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Vere Thomas and Olive Josephine (Attkisson) Burns. She grew up at Hepler, St. Paul and Iola, graduating from Hepler High School. She attended college at Pittsburg, Kan.

In May of 1943, Elaine married Robert Eugene Neil and they made their home in Fort Worth, Texas, where she worked as head secretary for General Dynamics. They had two sons and divorced after 43 years of marriage.

She returned to Iola to care for her mother. On March 17, 1986, Elaine married Keith F. Evans, Jr. in Miami, Okla. They made their home in Iola. She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, genealogy and traveling to all 50 states. Her memberships include the Eastern Star at Moran, and the Garnett American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

Survivors are her Husband: Keith F. Evans, Jr. of Iola, Kan.; son: Jim Neil and wife, Lynne of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson: Eric Neil and wife, Carrie of Arlington, Texas; two great grandsons, Weston and Chandler Neil; a brother, Bob Burns and wife, Maude of Iola, Kan.; three step-children, Richard Evans and wife, Marilynn of Phoenix, Ariz., Martha McCoy of Dayton, Va., and Richard Evans and wife, Sarah of North Carolina; seven step-grandchildren, Jamie, Joshua, Nathan, Andrew, Daniel, Jacob and Jessica; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael Robert Neil.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Hepler City Cemetery, Hepler, Kan. Memorials may go to the Iola Senior Meal Center and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
