USD 234 asking for half-mill increase
Wednesday, July 24, 2013
The USD 234 Board of Education voted Tuesday to include in its 2014 published budget a half mill increase in the local option budget for 2014 after not securing enough votes on a motion to increase the mill levy by a full mill. With two members (Justin Meeks and Michelle Parker) absent, the board voted 3-2 to increase the levy a full mill, which would add an estimated $75,000 to the district's coffers, but four votes are required to pass a motion. By statute, the budget must be published 10 days in advance of a public budget hearing, which is slated for the Aug. 12 USD 234 meeting. The finalized budget must be presented to the county clerk by Aug. 25.
