George Anthony Buras III

George Anthony Buras III, age 80, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospital. He was born May 23, 1933, in Home Place, La., the son of George Jules Buras and Marie Louise Soniat Dafosassat Buras. He graduated high school in Buras, La. He served our nation in the U.S. Navy for four years. Following military service, he attended Tulane University for three years. He worked in Brazil for two years for the Brown and Root Construction Company. He was a welder and heavy equipment operator and retired from Massman's Contruction Company in Kansas City, Mo. After moving to Fort Scott, he worked for Extrusions for 10 years. He married Rosa Marie Garrison on July 28, 1990, in Fort Scott. George enjoyed his field of work. He always had a love for the water, beginning in Louisiana on his father's shrimp boat. He liked meeting friends at McDonald's. He was president of the Eagles Lodge No. 4222 in Kansas City, Mo., and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church, and loved making coffee for his Sunday school class. George possessed a unique sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
