FSNHS invites area youth to annual day camp

Youngsters who want to learn about the mission of the National Park Service can get involved with an upcoming summer day camp offered by the Fort Scott National Historic Site.

The Trailblazer program, now in its 14th year, provides a series of activities for area youth 9 to 12 years of age. The five-day camp exposes the youth to the mission of the NPS.

The program is designed to build children as the future stewards of the National Park Service - children who will lead the way through much of the 21st century, a news release said.

"It's main purpose is to create for youth awareness and stewardship about the role and mission of the National Park Service, especially as it relates to Fort Scott," FSNHS Park Ranger Barak Geertsen said.
