Post 25 sweeps Garnett

GARNETT -- The Fort Scott American Legion Post 25 baseball team swept Garnett Post 48 here Tuesday night, winning game one 8-1 and game two 3-1.

Mason Knopp was the winning pitcher for Post 25 in the opener, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. He faced 25 batters, only four over the minimum one can face in a seven-inning game.

Benjamin Labbe drove in 2 runs in the first inning for Fort Scott (5-5). Jacob Payne drove in a run in the third while Kaleb DeLaTorre drove in 2 in the fourth, which made it 5-0. Knopp drove in 2 runs and Zach Denton drove in the other in a 3-run sixth inning.

Knopp and DeLaTorre were each 2 for 3 in the opener while Payne and Chase Brown each went 2 for 4. Brown scored 2 runs.

In the five-inning second game, Wyatt Reehl allowed 1 run on 5 hits and 5 walks while striking out 4 in the first 4 innings. Ryan Pickert pitched the last inning and didn't allow a baserunner.

Garnett scored in the bottom of the third to tie the score. Jacob Durossette drove in Jake Bradbury for Fort Scott's first run in the third inning. Alex Fink drove Denton home in the fourth to make it 2-1 i Post 25's favor.

Durossette led off the fifth with a single, then stole second. Brown moved him over and Knopp's single brought him home from third to make it 3-1.

Post 25 will host Burlington Post 38 in a doubleheader tonight at Ty Cullor Field. The first game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
