Barbara Sue McDaniel

Barbara Sue McDaniel, age 73, a former resident of rural Fort Scott and more recently of Carthage, Mo., died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Freeman Health Center, Joplin, Mo. She was born Sept. 10, 1939, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Lawrence R. Wolfe and Fern E. Lucas Wolfe. Barbara married Donald L. McDaniel on Dec. 23, 1959, in Fort Scott. She had worked in the accounts payable department of Mercy Hospital for 22 years. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and over the years, she and her husband helped raise numerous foster children. She was a member of the Carterville Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; four sons, Randall McDaniel, Carthage, Mo., Rick McDaniel, Fort Scott, Kan., Mark McDaniel, Uniontown, Kan., and Ronald McDaniel, Pittsburg, Kan.; three daughters, Patricia Flanigan, Carthage, Mo., and Jeanise Malone and Tanya Lockwood, both of Fort Scott, Kan. Also surviving is a sister, Beverly Locke, Iola, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pastor Bob Morgan will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m., Friday, May 24 at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
