City seeks prices on protecting staff during tornadoes

It's tornado season, and city officials want to make sure all city personnel are safe should a devastating twister strike the area.

On Tuesday, the Fort Scott City Commission approved a motion to seek bids for a small, reinforced steel tornado shelter that could be used by dispatchers and other personnel at the Hawkins Public Safety Facility located at 1604 S. National Ave.

Speaking on the matter during the meeting, Fort Scott Fire Chief Paul Ballou said a proposed shelter would be situated outside the Hawkins Public Safety Facility and give dispatchers who send out warnings during severe weather a place to take shelter.
