Landfill sees big uptick in activity and revenue

About a year ago, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment approved a request by Bourbon County Commissioners for an expansion of the county landfill. That request is now paying off.

It took nearly three years for the approval to go through, but now the county is reaping the rewards of the expansion as storm cleanup has brought both increased activity at the landfill and increased revenue for the county.

During their regular Bourbon County Commission meeting on Monday, commissioners got a clearer picture of just how much busier the landfill has been since the storm.
