PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School golfers took the top two spots at the Parsons Invitational at the KATY Course Monday, setting the pace as the Southeast Kansas League individual race got underway.

Connor Antonetti led the field with a 79 after shooting 40 on the front nine and 39 on the back. Jonathan Allen took second with his 38-43-81, winning a scorecard playoff over Independence's Caleb Vowell (40-41).

"They stayed mentally focused and performed at a level I have expected all season," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "They can yet improve, but we are beginning to see the potential each has. Both are strong competitors and both want to finish well this season and top this season off with a State appearance in May."

The top 10 individuals at the end of four SEK designated tournaments -- this being the first one -- receive First Team All-League honors. The next 10, including any ties, will be Honorable Mention players. The other three SEK designated tourneys are Thursday at the Parsons Country Club, which is Labette County's meet, April 30 at Coffeyville and May 6 at Chanute.

Independence won the team title with its four-man score of 332, just 4 strokes ahead of Labette County. Fort Scott finished in third place, 15 strokes behind LCHS, with a 351. Indy golfers finished in third, fourth, fifth, ninth and 10th places while LCHS players took sixth, seventh and eighth.

Fort Scott's four-man score was rounded out by Tucker Horn's 48-47--95 and Dane Ramsey's 47-49--96. Anthony Sercer shot 52-45--97 for the Tigers while Clayton Hixson finished at 49-57--106.

"To provide an opportunity for us to improve, Tucker, Dane, and Anthony have to improve," Klassen said. "They're great kids with tremendous attitudes. They are working hard, but their games have not yet jelled. We'll keep working especially hard on our short game, so that when we return to the narrow fairways of the Parsons KATY golf course (for Regionals) that we have a chance to qualify for the State tournament as a team."
