Fort Scott High School pitcher Kyenne Wade probably didn't realize just how special her effort as the Tigers' starting pitcher in the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader at Don Hewett Field was.

The sophomore retired the first 11 Parsons batters in order, walked two batters, hit one and struck out 15 as she threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 victory.

The Tigers remained unbeaten (4-0 league, 8-0 overall) by making it a sweep, downing the Vikings 17-2 in the nightcap of the Southeast Kansas League twinbill.

"She had a great fastball," Fort Scott head coach Alvin Metcalf said. "And her change-up comes in around 34 miles an hour (and) screws people into the ground. She was hitting her spots. That's pretty dang good for a sophomore."

The first Parsons batter flew out to right field. The next 10 went down on strikes. Wade actually struck out 13 in a row but the 11th reached base when strike three got past the catcher.

Only one runner got to second base for Parsons (0-4, 0-6). Just four got on base at all.

Both games of the Southeast Kansas League doubleheader ended early due to the run rule. Game one ended when four runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth without recording an out.

Hannah Tourtillott scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Abby Denton, who bunted her way on, scored on Delane Gray's single to make it 2-0.

Denton drove in 2 runs in the second on a triple, plating Bailey Brown and Katie Gorman, to make it 4-0. Gray drove in Gorman and Riley Brown with a fourth-inning single.

Tourtillott drew a walk to start the sixth. Denton followed with a single and R. Brown brought them in with a triple. Gray walked and stole second with Brown scoring when the ball eluded the catcher. Wade's double followed to bring Gray in and end the game.

Denton was 3 for 4 at the plate while Gray and Shelby Maycumber each had 2 hits.

Gray went into the pitching circle for the first time the season in the second game. Parsons got both its hits and both its runs in the top of the first but she didn't allow a hit in the last three innings, walked 3 and struck out 6, including 4 straight in one stretch.

Fort Scott doubled up Parsons in the bottom of the inning. Denton hit her first high-school home run, and inside-the-park shot, to get the Tigers on the board. Gray doubled with 2 out and Wade followed up with a run-scoring single. Sidney Maycumber tripled to plate Wade and Shelby's single down the right-field line brought in her sister.

Five went on the board in both the second and third innings. Sidney Maycumber ended the game in the fourth with a single to left that scored Wade with run No. 17.

Wade was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs for the Tigers while Gray was 2 for 3 and drove in 4 runs. Denton and Gorman were each 2 for 2. R.Brown and Shelby Maycumber were each 2 for 3 and Sidney Maycumber went 2 for 4.

The Tigers will be at home Thursday for a non-league doubleheader with Girard. Play begins at 4:30 p.m. at Don Hewett Field.
