Helena Evelyn Ramsey, 92, of Fort Scott, died Monday morning, Feb. 25, 2013 at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott. She was born Aug. 2, 1920 in Bourbon, Missouri, the daughter of Forrest Dwight and Marcella Julia (Schulze) Greenfield.

The family moved to Bourbon County, Kan. in 1922. Helena attended Garland Elementary School, Fort Scott High School, and Fort Scott Community College, and then taught elementary school in Bourbon County for three years.

She married James Lynne Ramsey April 26, 1942 in Garland, Kan. After his service in WWII, Lynne's career with the Federal Aviation Administration took the family traveling throughout the Midwest for several years, followed by six years in the Kansas City area and 15 in Washington D.C. The Ramsey's returned to Bourbon County in 1975 to be near their aging parents.

Helena was a founding member of the Kansas Wildflower Society and was an open class superintendent of the Home Economics Dept. of the Bourbon County Fair for 12 years.

Helena is survived by her four children, Mary E. Ramsey of Fort Scott, John S. Ramsey of Topeka, Martha L. Bruneton of Le Chalard, France, and James A. Ramsey of Garland; a sister, Barbara Racine of Norfolk, Va.; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lynne March 7, 2008; three sisters, Grace Rourk, Julia Finch, and Doris Pierce; and two brothers, Frank Greenfield, and Robert Greenfield.

Following cremation, Rev. Kenton Van will conduct memorial services for Helena at 10:30 a.m. Thursday March 7, 2013 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will take place later at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Greenfield Ramsey Scholarship at the Fort Scott Community College and may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O.
