Girls' Sub-State quarters moved to Thursday

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

There will be 14 basketball games played in four days on the court at the Fort Scott High School gymnasium following the postponment of all four girls' quarterfinal games that were schedued for Tuesday in the Fort Scott Class 4A Sub-State Tournament.

All four boys' quarters will be played tonight and all four of the girls' quarterfinals will be played Thursday night. This means that both the boys' and girls' semifinals will be played Friday night -- four more games -- and the two championship games will take place Saturday.

The changes have been made necessary by "Winter Storm Rocky," which has dumped between 6 and 12 inches of snow on the area this week.

Tonight's boys games:

* -- No. 8 seed Baxter Springs (0-20) faces No. 1 Anderson County (14-6) at 3:15.

* -- No. 6 Columbus (8-12) takes on No. 3 Pittsburg (10-9) at 4:45.

* -- No. 5 Prairie View (9-11) battles No. 4 Girard (10-10) at 6:15.

* -- The seventh-seeded Tiger boys (7-12) face No. 2 Frontenac (12-8) at 7:45. The teams met in the fifth-place at Frontenac's toutnament on Jan. 19 with the Raiders winning, 61-48.

Thursday's girls games:

* -- No. 7 Columbus (12-8) will play No. 2 Prairie View (15-5) at 3:15.

* -- No. 8 Anderson County (7-13) faces No. 2 Frontenac (16-4) at 4:45.

* -- No. 5 Baxter Springs (13-6) plays No. 4 Girard (14-6) at 6:15.

* -- The third-seeded Tiger girls (14-5) battle rival Pittsburg (13-6) at 7:45. The two were scheduled to play last Thursday night before "Winter Storm Q" put a halt to those proceedings. Fort Scott won 57-33 at Pittsburg on Jan. 29, which broke a three-game losing streak against the Purple Dragons.

Presuming things work out and tonight's game go on as scheduled, Friday's schedule should feature games at the same start times with girls' semifinals taking the 3:15 and 6:15 slots and the boys' playing at 4:45 and 7:45.

The girls' championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday. The boys' championship will take place at 7:30 that night.
