Patty Lou Stockebrand Dunwoody

Dunwoody, Patty Lou Stockebrand, age 82, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Maryville, Tenn. She was born May 1, 1930, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Grace McCormick and Fred Stockebrand. She is survived by her sister, Norma Stockebrand Wimmer (Donn); her children, Debby Dunwoody Vial (David Castello) of Louisville, Ky., Dee Ann Dunwoody Ostby (Brien) of Alcoa, Tenn., and Mark Dunwoody (Debra) of Simpsonville, S.C., as well as 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Dunwoody, and her youngest daughter, Janet Dunwoody Cloutier. The daughter of school teachers, Pat graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1947, and from Junior College in 1949. She earned a BS in Home Economics from Kansas State University and an MS in Special Education from the University of Tennessee. Pat and Neal met at the Presbyterian Westminster Foundation at K-State and were married July 12, 1952. They raised their 4 children in East Tennessee and later enjoyed many years living on a mountain farm near Marshall, N.C. A lifelong Presbyterian, Pat was ordained as an elder at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Kingston, Tenn., in 1982 and had been an active member at Highland Presbyterian Church in Maryville since 1994. She touched the lives of many through her teaching in her churches' education programs, as a special education teacher, a Girl Scout leader, initiator of a Natural Childbirth program in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and she was appointed by the Presbyterian Church as their representative on the Child and Family Justice Project of the National Council of Churches.
