Orchestral valentines offered by FSHS students

Looking for a novel way to celebrate Valentine's Day or something unique and different for a gift?

The Fort Scott High School Orchestra may have just the thing for you.

The orchestra students have memorized four romantic tunes to be played as surprise serenades for individuals all over the community on Valentine's Day.

Proceeds from serenade orders will go toward participating students' funds for the group's May St. Louis trip.

"The orchestra students have been practicing and solidifying their memorization by surprising their other teachers during orchestra class with impromptu serenades over the past couple weeks," noted teacher and Director Cody Toll.

"It's a lot of fun seeing students take satisfaction from brightening someone else's day. That's when I feel like we are most fulfilling our mission as musicians," said Toll.

The song selections are:

"Can You Feel the Love Tonight" - from The Lion King

"That's What Makes You Beautiful" - One Direction

"Stand by Me" - Ben E. King

"The Rose" - Bette Midler

The cost is $10 for a surprise serenade and $20 for a surprise serenade, candy, a rose, and a card.

To order, call the high school music department at 620-223-0600 or email Toll at cotoll@usd234.org.

Serenades will be performed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14.

"Time slots are filling up quickly," noted Toll.
