No. 8 Lions drop FSCC men, 84-60

Brown Mackie, ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division II poll released Wednesday afternoon, took control late in the first half and never relinquished it in an 84-60 verdict over Fort Scott Community College's men in a Region VI Division II seeding game at Arnold Arena Wednesday night.

Brown Mackie (6-1 D-II, 17-3 overall) dictated the tempo early and while the Greyhounds (2-4, 9-10) were able to keep pace early, it was too much over the long haul.

The Greyhounds held a 13-12 lead with 13:08 to go after Ray Ray Chase converted a 3-point play and tied it twice more in the next minute and a half.

Austin Danner converted two technical free throws with 9:46 to go to bring Fort Scott back within 24-20. And he got them within one, 32-31, with a 3-point basket with 3:20 left.

But the Lions scored 10 of the last 12 points of the half to go into the locker room with a 9-point lead. That eventually grew to 56-40 with 14:14 left in the game.

The closest Fort Scott got the rest of the way was 62-51 with 10;51 remaining after James Fleming stuck back a teammate's miss. Brown Mackie -- which is averaging 92.1 points a game -- went on to score 16 of the next 20.

Thaddeus Rideau and Travon Mitchell each scored 17 points for the Lions. Wendell Pierce added 15 and Jason Jordan chipped in with 10.

Danner led all scorers with 22 points. Prince Samuels followed with 11 and Fleming scored 10.

The Lions made 11 of 26 3-point attempts and 34 of 73 fielders overall (47 percent).
