John L. Rickman, 72, of Girard, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at his residence in Girard.

He was born Feb, 6, 1940, at Roscoe, Mo., the son of Clifford A. and Ellen E. (Carter) Rickman. The family moved to Richards, Mo., in 1946 and John attended schools there and graduated from Nevada High School in Nevada, Mo. He lived in Nevada until 1965 when he moved to Girard. He studied vocational-auto technology at Pittsburg State University from 1958 until 1960.

He married Roberta P. Bower on Oct. 22, 1961, in Nevada. She survives of the home.

John worked at Guthrie Motors in Nevada, Pitzer Motors in Pittsburg and at Evan's Chevrolet in Girard. He opened John's Auto Service in Girard in 1985 and retired in 2007.

John enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandson, gardening and NASCAR.

Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Bryan Rickman and wife Donna of Girard; a daughter, June Harryman of Peculiar, Mo.; his grandchildren Amy Sluder, Chrissy Watson, Andy Rickman, Jacob Harryman, and Matthew Harryman; his great-grandson, Eric Briggs; a sister, Judy Lasley of Girard and her friend, Gene Allen.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 1 p.m., Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriner's Transportation Fund, the Alzheimer's Association, or Harry Hynes Hospice and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
