More than 50 people attended Thursday's Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce-Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce after-hours event at Crooner's Lounge.

Under an informal agreement, the chambers have held the mixers since September 2011 in the spring and fall. The turnout for this one was a little down because yesterday was the first day of school in Nevada, but that didn't dampen the spirits of those attending.

"We welcome you all here. I think this is a great opportunity for both communities to network," Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lindsay Madison said.

Taking turns, everyone in the room introduced themselves and said who they represented, or what they did.

"This means so much to us being able to come over here. We envision strengthening the regional economy and strengthening what we've got," Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gina Ensor said.

Larry Gazaway of KOMB-FM 103.9 told those attending a little about the Liberty Theatre and Crooner's Lounge, owned by Jim and Paulette Smith and managed by Jill Gray. He said it offers first-class shows. The season opens Saturday night with The Beatles cover band Liverpool.

Mike Riley, who does singer Michael Buble, a group called the Rat Pack and Vocal Trash are among the performances coming up. Call Gray at (417) 824-0931 for reservations, or check the website at http://www.fslibertytheatre.com/page-1.

"The quality of the entertainment that comes in here is incredible," Gazaway said, adding that performers often say it is their favorite venue to play. "Jim and Paulette Smith are some of the best people you'll ever meet in your life." He also complimented Gray on her work for the businesses.
