Local Work Group to meet

The Bourbon County Conservation District board of supervisors will hold a Local Work Group meeting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13 in the conference room of the USDA Service Center, 1515 S. Judson.

The purpose of the meeting is to address Environmental Quality Incentive Program and Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program including the issues of:

* Resource concerns

* Eligible practices to be offered

* Payment rates

* Ranking criteria to be considered

LWGs provide recommendations on local and state natural resource priorities and criteria for U.S. Department of Agriculture conservation activities and programs to the National Resource Conservation Service Kansas Technical Committee.

Local Work Group members should be diverse and focus on agricultural interests and natural resource issues in the community. Membership should include agricultural producers representing the variety of crops and livestock raised in the area; owners of non-industrial private forest land; representatives of agricultural and environmental agencies carrying out agricultural; and natural resource conservation and activities.
