Bourbon County's burn ban continues

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Bourbon County's burn ban continues, regardless of the temperature changes and any amounts of rain the area may have received.

There is a very real danger of fires being started by lightning in the next day, Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers said in an email.

Winds will also pick up ahead of the cool front that is expected to arrive early Wednesday morning. There have been a few small fires that quickly were extinguished by local fire departments, Jeffers said.

Jeffers said to remind neighbors that the burn ban is still on and that all outdoor burning is banned until lifted by Bourbon County Commissioners. This does include any small fireworks that children may find and use, burning trash in barrels, piles of trash or leaves, etc.

The only burning allowed is covered barbecue. Emergency officials ask that residents to monitor barbecues, as well and keep an eye for any sparks that may be flying out, Jeffers said in the email.
