BOWMAN

Charles Nicholas "Nick" Bowman, 63, of Fort Scott, died at his home Sunday morning, June 10, 2012.

He was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Verl Archie and Ruth Pauline (Carr) Bowman.

He married Polly Sue Ovshak Dec. 31, 1999, in Eureka Springs, Ark., and she survives of the home.

In addition to his wife Sue, Charles is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Nichol Dacosta of San Diego, Calif., and a grandson, Chance Wrobel, also of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A note from his wife Sue:

I write this with great sadness and sorrow; my dear husband passed into his loving mother's arms June 10, 2012. He was just 63. Actually, many of his people were probably there to greet him as he was a very good man and also a cool "hood."

Many years before I had known him, he stopped his car to ferry a hapless turtle to safety. Meanwhile, I had been engaged in the same activity. And so we were soulmates even then.

He was married previously to Cathy Lee and they produced a beautiful daughter they named Kimberly. She in turn begot Chance who will be as tall as Charles (6-foot-3 inches).

Charles was a Vietnam veteran and has a Bronze Star to his name. He served with Joe Calisti whom he had met in Sunday School and became good friends for the remainder of his life.

I wish Charles was here to help me with this. I loved him dearly.
