Airspace open house scheduled

Thursday, May 24, 2012

The public is invited to an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Fort Scott City Hall, 123 S. Main St., to hear details about the Fort Scott Airport Airspace Protection Program.

The city of Fort Scott will inform the public about Federal Aviation Administration safety standards around the Fort Scott Municipal Airport and about draft updates in local procedures for protecting the public and the airspace around the airport, a news release said.

The city has held work sessions with the Airport Advisory Board, Bourbon and Crawford counties to discuss airport safety and draft "Height and Hazard Regulations." The open house at city hall will be held to further inform the public and answer questions about the draft Fort Scott Municipal Airport Height and Hazard Regulations.

Future public hearings will be held this summer before the regulations are considered for adoption by the Fort Scott City Commission, the release said.

"The Fort Scott Airport Airspace Protection Program is for the benefit of landowners who live near the airport, as well as for pilot safety," Fort Scott Municipal Airport Manager Kenny Howard said in the release. "This is a good program for the safety of area residents and their property; and for the pilots who fly into and out of the municipal airport."

Informational materials may be viewed at City Hall during the open house.
