A Topeka man was hurt in a one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon west of Fort Scott.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Ian Michael Bychinski, 18, was eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 about seven miles west of Fort Scott when he fell asleep, crossed the center line, overcorrected and lost control of the 2000 Chevy pickup he was driving.

The truck entered the south ditch, then entered the roadway crossing the center line, entered the north ditch and struck a tree, the report said.

The accident took place about 12:30 p.m. Monday at U.S. 54 mile post 366.9.

Bychinski was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released, Mercy spokeswoman Tina Rockhold said.
