Ag Stewardship conference set in Erie

Farmers and ranchers in southeast Kansas counties are encouraged to attend the Ag Stewardship Conference on Friday, Feb. 24, at Tony's Function Junction, 59 and 47 Junction, in Erie.

All producers in the area are invited, but absentee landowners, women and minorities, new and beginning farmers, and small or specialty crop farmers are encouraged to attend.

Doug Shoup, southeast agronomist for K-State Research and Extension, will discuss the ABCs of Agriculture, including crops, soils, map reading and ag basics.

Kevin Dhuyvetter, ag economist for Kansas State University, will discuss leasing issues.

Kent Miller, farm management economist for K-State, will discuss how to plan your estate to take advantage of changing tax law and to ensure a smooth transfer of assets to the next generation.

A panel of agriculture experts will discuss the hot issues at the time of the conference. The panel will include NRCS, FSA, Extension Service, Conservation District, Farm Credit, WRAPS, Farm Bureau and Extension representatives.

The conference is free to all attendees and lunch will be provided.

The conference starts at 9 a.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.
