BERNICE IRENE SCHLICHTING
Bernice Irene Schlichting, 104, of Yates Center, Kan., passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Yates Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, Yates Center. She was born July 18, 1907, in Berlin, Kan., the daughter of William Phillip and Carrie Bell (Stewart) Bowers.
Bernice grew up in rural Bronson where she owned and operated her own beauty shop. On Jan. 23, 1938, she married David "Claude" Schlichting in Fort Scott, Kan. She and Claude moved to Wichita but eventually returned to Yates Center where Bernice owned and operated a local beauty shop.
She was an 82-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Golden Rod Chapter No. 163.
Bernice leaves four second cousins, Glenn E. Smith and wife Retta, Bronson, Kan., Nadine Walker, Fort Scott, Marilyn Brown and husband Raymond of San Lorenzo, Calif., and George Holt and wife Esther, Uniontown, Kan.; and a step-grandchild, Lyndell King, Maize, Kan.
Bernice donated her body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for research. No services are planned.
