10-year-olds win State
OSWEGO -- Fort Scott's 10-year-olds won the Kansas Cal Ripken Baseball State Tournament held here over the weekend.
The 10-year-olds advance to Regional tourney play, which will begin July 27 at Kalona, Iowa.
Friday night, Fort Scott defeated Parsons, 6-5, in their first game of the tournament. Kieran Houlihan was Fort Scott's Most Valuable Player while Daniel Eichenberger was given the WOW Award, which goes to a player on each team that made an exceptional play.
Saturday, Fort Scott defeated Ottawa, 10-0, with Ty Gorman named MVP and Mason Couch winning the WOW Award.
Sunday, Fort Scott defeated Winfield, 4-3, to advance to the championship game. Gorman was again the MVP while Matt Campbell was given the WOW Award.
Monday afternoon, Fort Scott defeated Cimarron River, 15-5, to win the State title. Gorman was named MVP again while Houlihan was the recipient of the WOW Award.
