Fort Scott High School's softball team routed Iola in a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader at Don Hewitt Field Monday night, winning the opener 11-0 and taking the second game 17-2.

The Tigers (11-3 SEK, 12-6 overall) can clinch second place in the league with a sweep at Chanute Thursday (there are other ways; this is the simplest). Labette County (14-0, 17-1) clinched the title last week.

Fort Scott pounded out 12 hits in the opener, one of which was a home run by Kenzie Heatherly, her first of the season. She led the Tigers with 3 hits in 4 at-bats, driving in 4 runs. She also hit a double and a triple.

Jade Weeter went 3 for 3, scoring 3 runs. Delane Gray was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Hannah Tourtillott was 2 for 3, scoring 3 times. Sidney Maycumber drove in 3 runs while Shelby Maycumber drove in 2.

Jenna Harper (5-3), recovering from a hamstring injury, allowed 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5 as she pitched a complete game. She broke a personal 2-game losing streak -- the first game was one in which the injury began to bother her and the second was a 1-0 loss to Columbus Thursday despite throwing a one-hitter.

Fort Scott scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning and then 2 in the third and fourth and 3 in the fifth to stop the game on the 10-run rule.

The second game lasted only 3 1/2 innings as the 15-after-3 version of the mercy rule kicked in. Gray (7-3) held Iola (2-12, 3-15) to one earned run on 4 hits and 2 walks. She struck out 3 batters.

Fort Scott scored 4 in the first and then 8 in the third inning to go up 12-2. The Tigers added 2 in the third and 3 in the fourth.

Fort Scott had 17 hits in this game, finishing the day with 28 runs on 29 hits and just 1 error committed.

H.Tourtillott was 3 for 4 for the Tigers with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Weeter, Sh.Maycumber and Heatherly were each 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Sh.Maycumber also drove in 2 runs. Morgan Tourtillott went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI. Kim Harper was 2 for 3 and scored twice.
