ELLWOOD GARRELL "ABE" STAMBAUGH

Ellwood Garrell "Abe" Stambaugh, age 92, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Medicalodges of Fort Scott. He was born July 21, 1918, in Prescott, Kan., the son of Bertram C. and Bessie Smith Stambaugh. He graduated from Prescott High School. He married Harriet Louise Hoffman on April 7, 1943, in Reno, Nev. Ellwood owned and operated Stambaugh Magneto and Electric Service in Prescott. He served his country during WWII in the United States Navy from April 7, 1939, to Dec. 6, 1945. He served on the Prescott City Council numerous years and the Prescott School Board for twenty six 26 years.

He enjoyed gardening, as well as grafting pecan trees. Mr. and Mrs. Stambaugh moved from Prescott to Fort Scott in 2008. Ellwood was very strong in his Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife Harriet of Fort Scott; one son, Louis Stambaugh and wife Marita, Lumberton, Texas; three daughters, Kristina Dodson, Fort Scott, Anke Dunn and husband Will, Tulsa, Okla., and Lanza Coe and husband Ben, McKinney, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a cousin, June Fossey. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernadine Stambaugh, LaMoyne Stambaugh, and Cleone Stambaugh; as well as his parents.

Pastor Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services for Ellwood "Abe" Stambaugh at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Prescott Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday evening. Memorials are suggested to the V.F.W.
