Nearly 50 Fort Scott High School students were recognized for their academic successes during the annual Plus 5 Dinner on Monday at the school.

Forty-nine students qualified to receive invitations to the dinner. The program began in 1991 to recognize students who were able to raise their third quarter grade .5 or above their cumulative grade point average.

Historically, the third quarter is the most difficult time of the year for students to raise their grades. Nationally, most students' grades fall or remain the same during this academic period, a news release said.

Students who qualified to attend the dinner were given the option of inviting a teacher who had encouraged them to raise their grades.

Following are the students who received invitations: Tyler Adams, Damon Allen, Josh Anderson, Kaitlin Barker, Jeff Brown, Drew Bryant, Kyle Burch, Courtney Cannici, A.J. Cezar, Hayley Clark, Kim Cook, Rachael Dizmang, Aubin Duff, Zach Engle, Tiera Floyd, Kennedy Goucher, Katie Harper, Jaime Hawkins, Ashley Heckman, Chism Hoener, Derek Houdashelt, Haley Howard, Hayes Howser, Garrett Lawrence, Coley Logan, Garren Lorenz, Josh McCarthy, Kenny Meek, Hannah Messer, Karley Nelson, Rahab Ngatia, Taylor Page, Lee Parrish, Bryer Pearson, Luke Peralta, Cierra Poyner, Danyelle Schultz, Hanna Silvara, Heather Sorden, Grace Thomas, Karrlie Thorpe, Wil Tonisson, Justin Uhler, Dalton Van Buskirk, Dylan Weber, Kylar West, Robert Wiebelhaus, Ashlin Williams, and Katrina Yakel.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of pizza, ice cream and soft drinks. FSHS Principal Bob Beckham introduced each youngster, who then received an achievement certificate from FSHS Assistant Principal Rob McKim.
