Mary Wilhelmenia Stewart, age 89, a former resident of Bronson, Kan., went to her heavenly home Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Moran Manor in Moran, Kan.

Mary was born May 23, 1921, the daughter of Elizabeth and Edwin Wolf. In her youth, she went to the Dry Ridge School and then to the Bronson High School. As a young girl, Mary accepted Christ and was a member of the Four Square Church in Bronson. Later, she was a member of the Bronson Baptist Church and in her later years was a member of the Bronson United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Bronson Order of Eastern Star. At 16 years of age, on Nov. 30, 1937, she married the love of her life, Roy L. Stewart. This union was blessed with seven children.

After 69 years of marriage, Roy passed away in April of 2007.

Mary drove a school bus for USD 235 in Uniontown for several years, but her biggest job was being a mom. She also loved flowers and talking on the phone.

Survivors include her children, Katherine Guss, Fort Scott, Kansas, Bonnie M.C. Stewart and husband, Jim Grey, Emporia, Kan., Alan Stewart and wife, Charlotte, Bronson, Kansas, Darlene Stewart and husband Frank, Kincaid, Kansas and Serena McAnulty and husband, Randy, Bronson, Kansas. Also surviving is a sister, Anor Lemmon, Fort Scott; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Owen Popp, a daughter Debbie Stewart, a son, Clinton Stewart, a son-in-law, Vernon Guss and two grandchildren.

Rev. Paul Rooks and Rev. Chub Bolling will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the Bronson United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel.
