Fort Scott CC gets set for rodeo

The Fort Scott Community College 30th Annual Spring College Rodeo is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12 and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

Events will include bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. The rodeo will be held at Arnold Arena and feature athletes from 25 Kansas and Oklahoma two and four-year colleges. Both the men and women's teams compete in 10 rodeos hosted by the region each year, only one of which is at home.

The FSCC men's team is currently ranked second in the Central Plains Region with individuals ranked high in men's all-around, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and bull riding. While watching this year's rodeo, keep your eye out for Jake Tyler McKellips who is ranked second in men's all-around; Jordan James Corrigan, Jake Tyler McKellips, and Shane Edward Hand ranked fifth, sixth, and 11th, respectively in saddle bronc riding; Jacob Ryan Self, Ethan James Assmann, Matt Roy Croom, Ethan Tyler Gordon, Allen Jack Yochum, and David Catlette Lester ranked third, fourth, sixth, ninth, 11th, and 12th in bareback riding, and Dustin Vernon Walter Olmstead, Jake Tyler McKellips, Nicholas Paige Lica, and Chelse McGuire Day, ranked second, third, fifth and sixth in bull riding.

Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for FSCC students with ID; $3 for children 6-12; and free for children 5 and under.
